Altierus Career College-Norcross Launching HVAC, Refrigerator Technician Programs

The following article is from Gwinnett Daily Post.

Altierus Career College is inviting Gwinnett residents who are interested in learning about a career in heating, ventilation and air conditioning work to attend an open house at its Norcross campus this week.

College officials announced they are enrolling students for new HVAC and refrigerator technician programs that will begin at the Norcross campus in March. School officials said the programs are designed to address an expected 20 percent increase in the demand for HVAC jobs in Georgia that is anticipated to come by 2024.

"Atlanta has more jobs in the HVAC field than it has skilled individuals to fill those roles. Local employers have already expressed interest in being involved with a hands-on HVAC program that would fill the market need," Altierus Career College-Norcross campus director Moses Delaney said in a statement.

"The goal of our new HVAC program is to help fill that gap while providing our students with a path to a growing career field that's growing in Atlanta and beyond."

The open house will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Norcross campus, which is located at 1750 Beaver Ruin Road, Suite 500.

A 3,240-square-foot HVAC lab has been built at the school to accommodate students. Students will learn how to install electrical wiring and controls, repair and replace HVAC unit parts, and improve the efficiency of air conditioning units, furnaces, electrical hookups, circuit boards and other HVAC system components.

Altierus officials said students could complete the programs in about nine months.

"We are committed to serving the greater Atlanta area by providing a hands-on learning environment while graduating well-trained HVAC professionals," said Delaney. "We offer a low instructor-to-student ratio, as well as industry current tools to help our students get the training they need to successfully enter this field."

Altierus officials said students will receive instruction to prepare them for EPA Universal Refrigerant and HVAC Level 1 NCCER certification tests as well as OSHA 10-hour basic safety orientation and universal R410A safety and training.

Officials said anyone interested in learning more about the programs can visit www.altierus.edu.
