Altierus Career College Offers "In-It-Together" Scholarship for Surgical Technology and Nursing Programs
TAMPA, Florida—Altierus Career College announced today that nursing and surgical technology students are eligible for the In-It-Together Scholarship, which reimburses up to half of a student's tuition and fees – as much as about $17,000 – after they have completed their program and passed the certification exam.
"The cost of college can be a barrier for many people wanting to gain a skill that leads to a rewarding career," said Oluyemi (Yemi) Awolola, campus director at Altierus-Tampa. "We want to do all we can to support our students, including providing an affordable education in a field full of job opportunities."
According to the Florida Center for Nursing, more than 40 percent of Florida nurses are approaching retirement age in the next 10 years, which will leave the state with a nursing shortage by 2025. At the same time, healthcare jobs continue to grow in the Tampa area, fueled by developments such as the new surgical tower.
To be eligible for the scholarship, students must:
- Apply for the scholarship upon enrolling in a nursing or surgical technology program at Altierus.
- Maintain continuous enrollment in the program and graduate within 36 months (both programs are designed to be completed in 24 months).
- Successfully pass the corresponding certification exam on the first or second attempt and within 60 days of graduation.
Altierus also supports students with professional skills development, resume development, job interview practice, externships or clinical rotations, and job placement assistance. Recognizing that a student's success relies on a balance between the demands of daily life and their education, Altierus provides tablets, library computers, tutors and other resources to help support continuity of the school experience.
